Children

From Fortnite, to Legos, to Roblox, to L.O.L surprises, influencers, youtubers… and so many other characters surround our kid’s life in today’s world. Needless to say, more than often they experience anxiety and social difficulties interacting with others, higher levels of distraction and activity, and struggles concentrating while studying. At the same time, kids grow up not quite understanding the adult’s world, but living everyday by its rules and circumstances:

  • Having to spend little time with caregivers due to long work-schedules or traveling.
  • Witnessing parental differences in styles or marital difficulties
  • Cultural negotiations for immigrant parents, along with the raising a child outside their countries of origin
  • Dealing with the caregiver’s emotional and physical health
  • Experiencing a traumatic event (e.g. being sexually assaulted, witnessing domestic violence, medical procedures, among others).
  • Managing school pressures regarding performance

As part of therapy, children and parents have the opportunity to process their frustrations, excitements and changes. With the understanding that play is the center of the child’s world, therapy integrates techniques that allow the child to express, project, relate and create a narrative of his/her/their own strengths and challenges. In addition, therapy serves as a space to develop ways to cope with stressors and overwhelming feelings that are part of our life.
